Debt settlement now made more obvious + Indian rupee
We have just released a feature which many of our users have been pleading
to get: a calculated settlement path. Before it was more of a running
balance and any settlement had to be worked out by manually matching the
negative balances with the positive. We have now improved that. This means
that now in a pool, if you want to know how much people should pay, and to
whom, just take a look at the ‘Members’ tab. It includes a helpful
suggestion!
Additionally, due to popular demand, we have added support for the Indian
rupee. Old exchange rates will be somewhat inaccurate, but all new
transactions made against the rupee are based on current rates.

Scred announces inventory and pool pictures
Now usually our release names advance alphabetically, but in honour of one of our all time favourite episodes, Backwards from Red Dwarf, we are doing it a bit different. That particular episode also brings back memories to some of the people working at Scred. One of our previous startups went by the project name of ‘Nodnol’. This was a geo location and browsing platform for mobile devices, not unlike Google Maps today (but done in 2001). Unfortunately it was way ahead of its time.
Anyway, back to the release. We’ve got loads of great feedback and are busy working night and day to get things done. In response to some of that, today we launched:
- A simple way to manage inventory for MiniCorps. Scred also works out the value of it.
- A setting for MiniCorp shop items to control how many can be purchased at
once. - Pools can now have their own personal picture shown in the pool page and
pool list. It is also shown in their shop, if they have one. - The ‘Revenue’ tab for MiniCorps has now been renamed ‘Our Shop’. The
profit calculation now appears in the top section about the pool. More
revenue related functionality will appear elsewhere later. - A fix to how profit was calculated in MiniCorps has been made. Now only
orders which have been processed will be included (as was the case for
revenue calculation). - The user who paid for an item is now listed in a MiniCorp’s order list in
addition to the detailed view. Makes going through list easier. - Negative values may no longer be entered into pool transactions on the
web. This used to be the way to add shared income but with the new UI is no
longer necessary (for cancellation, use the cancel button). - A fix to remove MiniCorp shops from the listing if the MiniCorps no longer
have a PayPal account or if they have no members. - A “No picture” is shown in MiniCorp shop if item has no image. Layout is
better, but best is to add an image!

Want to use Scred MiniCorps?
While MiniCorps are still in closed beta, if you have something planned or
an idea in mind which could use a Scred MiniCorp, get in touch with us using
the feedback form to request to become a beta user. We’re generally pretty
friendly and keen to hear about cool projects.
Scred now lets you create pools when on the move
We’d like to thank all the users who have been sending us feedback and comments. We are working hard to implement some of those requests. Meanwhile we have released support for creating pools directly with the mobile website, so you can easily build a pool when you are on the road and forgot to do it at home.
Additionally, on the normal website, we made the user’s own currency the default when creating a pool (as it used to be) and smartened up both the registration form and the pool creation. Various other bug fixes have also been rolled out.
Hopefully this small update (dubbed ‘BehindTheLines‘) will be useful to you. Expect something more in the not too far future.

Scred makes registration easier
We fully understand that some people are impatient. So we put in some work and made registration to Scred easier than it has ever been before. Now there are only three fields to fill in! Even the currency field has been pre-selected with the currency you will most likely want, based on the country you are visiting from. If you’re not happy with what it chose, simply select the currency you’re happiest with (it can also be changed in your profile). Now your friends will have no excuse for not signing up.
Additionally we made some other small fixes here and there, including growing the size of the MiniCorp shop item description, to make addition and editing easier.
Edited to add that our release is called The Begotten.

Scred would like to hear how you use it + updates
We have just pushed out a new release of Scred called Battlefield, but first we would like to give the microphone to you. We’d love to hear how you are using Scred and where. What is good, what is bad? What is the one thing you’d like to see in a service dealing with money for groups? Or just say hi.
Send us your thoughts by filling in the feedback form on Scred, or by commenting here.
We will now also be posting updates and communicating on Twitter.
You can follow us and comment to us here: http://twitter.com/Screditor
On to the latest updates:
- You can now configure the description of your pool in the ‘Settings’ tab. This is also used as the description of a MiniCorp shop.
- The settings tab now bundles all settings together to make editing more
sensible. - MiniCorps that have removed all items from their shop will not be listed
in the shop list. - A help page has been added to describe how to make a MiniCorp shop.
- You can now change your primary email from your profile.
- Pending orders in the MiniCorp revenue tab are now marked more clearly.
- Various bugs fixed: use of beta code in registration form, use of default
profile pic, better email address checks. Also, our previous release fixed
issues with IE, for those who might still be wondering about that.
Thank you to everyone who kept posting bug reports and feedback!

New “service pack” release: Band Candy
We have just released a new update to Scred, which fixes a few important issues:
- Support for Internet Explorer has been returned. Screding should now work with it.
- Listing of pools has been fixed for Opera and IE.
- Cancellation of Direct Screds now works.
- Some errors in the calendar selection have been fixed.
Additionally emails are now sent for new pool transactions to people involved with them. This helps to keep people informed when new transactions for them take place.
Thank you for all your feedback! Keep it coming.
Scred announces profile pics, pool member removal etc.
Despite our big release last week, the Scred guys have not become lazy. Our latest release (Bad Wolf) is updating a few important things to keep our valuable users happy:
- It is now possible to remove people from a pool (as long as their balance is 0). Probably the #1 requested fix recently!
- Users can now be more personal and set a profile picture which other users will see.
- MiniCorp shop items can now be edited. Add a reduction in price for a holiday, or correct details in the item.

Scred makes making money easy with new MiniCorps + UI updates
We are very proud to announce our most important release since the service was opened (release nicknamed ‘Babylon Squared’). Scred MiniCorps are essentially small virtual companies. With them you can track income, expenses, debt and actually sell items and receive money with the integrated shop. Scred will track all orders and display them to you, as well as calculate your profit and revenues. Finally your band or event can forget about the awkward money stuff, and simply sell online. Other examples are associations, student groups, hobbyist film crews, artists, handcraft or trip organisers.
Sell MP3s, DVDs, t-shirts, donations, memberships, tickets … anything. Scred will keep track of it all.
This is unique in the world. Anybody with a PayPal account can immediately start selling and receiving money. The MiniCorp feature is currently in closed beta. Beta codes can be found in some places on the web, or possibly if you ask really nicely
All MiniCorp functionality will remain free at least for the beta period. We’d especially love to hear feedback about what is good, what is bad about it, or what you’d like to see.
Check out what two major blogs, ArcticStartup and TechCrunch say about it:
New UI
We haven’t left normal pool users in the dark, either. Scred now has a much more refined user interface for Scredding with your pals, making it much more obvious what you want to do. No confusing terms like ‘creditor’ and ‘indebted’ on the main website. Additionally you can tag your entries. Later it will be possible to get statistics and reports based on that.
Scred announces direct transactions
We are very proud to announce the most important release of Scred since the service went public. This one contains the all time most requested feature: direct Screding. This allows you to register debts with people even if they do not share membership of any pools with you. In fact, they do not even need to be registered Scred users!
Scred’s pool feature is extremely useful with its automatic debt shuffling and quick-to-use interface, but sometimes you might need to register a debt with random people who have, for one reason or other, not registered to Scred or do not share a pool with you. This is where direct Screding is useful. Using it, you can easily register a debt with anyone, either by their Scred username or by any valid email address. You can even use any currency supported by us, and yes, this is also possible offline using your mobile phone.
This first version currently supports one-to-one direct Screds. New ways of using this feature are forthcoming, but considering how useful it is we believed it better to bring this out for you to use as soon as possible.
You can start creating direct Screds immediately at: https://www.scred.com/
To make use of it on your mobile phone, be sure to update it to the latest version from: http://www.scred.com/mobile/. (Some phones also provide an ‘Upgrade application’ option.)
Other updates in this release (Army of Ghosts):
- Fixes to make Scred more usable on IE 7.
- Pool IDs can now contain spaces.
- ‘Transfer’ section now renamed ‘Scred it!’ and relocated beside My Scred to reflect its importance in the usage flow.
- Users can now have multiple email addresses assigned per account.
- Country added to profile information.
- Pool members who were not involved with a transaction can no longer cancel it.
- Help pages have now info on creating transactions and joining pools.
- Test pool now more clearly marked as a place for experimentation.
- ‘Add transaction’ in the pool pages now called ‘Quick Scred It’, as that’s closer to its nature. Also has a link to the actual Scred it page.
- Fixed some minor value display problems
- Scred Mobile users can now start using it, even if they are not a member of any pool. Direct Screds are available immediately.
Thank you for the many feedback reports you have sent. We hope this update will please many of you, but do keep the feedback coming in. We will do our very best to help you.
